Everything You Need to Know About Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial root made from titanium that is inserted into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth. After the implant is placed, a crown is attached to the implant.

Dental implants are made to look and function like your natural teeth and are a great option for a long-term dental restoration solution.

Common Questions About Dental Implants

Like with any dental procedure, there are bound to be questions that come up, so we’ve answered some of the common questions that patients have when considering dental implants.

What happens if I don’t replace a missing tooth?

Replacing missing teeth plays an important role when it comes to restoring your confidence in your smile. Besides confidence, there are multiple health reasons why it is important to replace your teeth.

Over time, the missing space in your mouth may cause your jawbone to deteriorate and eventually will lose its strength and shape. By inserting a dental implant, you will be preserving the shape and stability of the jawbone.

Should you leave an empty space over a long period of time, your teeth will begin to move and could potentially create crowding in the mouth. This could lead to further orthodontic treatment in the future.

How long does a Dental Implant last?

Dental implants can last you a lifetime with proper maintenance and care.

Dental implants are considered to be permanent and the gold standard option for replacing missing teeth. The upside of having an implant is that it can’t get cavities and it will not cause any damage to surrounding teeth. In comparison to a dental bridge, the implant does not require support from its surrounding teeth.

How much does it cost?

It is hard to determine the exact cost of a dental implant without having a proper consultation with your dentist first.

There are several costs associated with the tooth which include but are not limited to extraction of the tooth, CT scan, bone grafting, sinus lift, implant and the final crown placement.

Not everyone will need the exact same treatment for dental implant surgery, but you can expect the approximate cost of an implant to be $3800. At Warmstone Family Dentistry, you will also receive a complimentary care package to take home to make your recovery more comfortable.

What can I expect during treatment & how can I prepare?

We offer a complimentary consultation at the beginning to give you all the necessary information you will need before starting treatment.

We want to be fully transparent with you and answer all the questions you may have and what you can expect throughout the entire process. The planning process for dental implants may vary due to the possibility of needing one or more surgical procedures. It is important to receive a thorough evaluation first to prepare you for dental implant treatment.

Your dentist will review your medical history with you, which you will discuss any medical conditions or medications you take, prescription or over the counter.  X-rays will then be taken and you will receive a comprehensive dental exam to determine if you are qualified for treatment. A CT scan may be needed to ensure there is sufficient bone structure for the dental implant to be inserted. Typically, the entire process can take up to 6-9 months to fully complete depending on the individual case.

Your dental team will be transparent on the length of time the treatment will take and are readily available to answer any questions you have during your treatment.
